We have a practical philosophy: Everyone (adults and children) learns best when they are having fun! We spend our days learning as we play. Every single activity a child experiences from infancy on is an opportunity for us to teach them and expand their thinking and creativity. We, at Child’s Play Childcare, take advantage of all opportunities to challenge each child at their own level. An equally important part of early child development is learning how to solve problems and negotiate with others. These skills will help a child through his or her entire life. Children must feel safe and cared for, while trusting their provider to learn these life long skills. From the first moment I am entrusted with a child, I start to build a strong bond of assurance and care. The children I care for are loved and very spoiled in a good way; loving my family in return. What separates Child’s Play Childcare from another licensed day care? Please visit us and find out. With in a few minutes of visiting us, you will know that Child’s Play Childcare is the right place for your child. Your child will be grateful to you.

September is Hunger Action Month. Throughout the month, the East Texas Food Bank along with our Hunger Action Month partners: KLTV, KTRE, Brookshire’s, Super 1 Foods, Brookshire Brothers and Townsquare Media are working to engage East Texans to take action and help spread the word about hunger in our community. You can help take action by: Donating Food at any local Brookshire’s, Super 1 Foods or Brookshire Brothers and participate in our 30 Ways in 30 Days campaign Here in East Texas, over 428000 East Texans struggles with food insecurity and if the basic need for food is not met — hunger impacts child development, health and education. But together, we can conquer under and aid the hungry living right here in East Texas. Currently, the East Texas Food Bank provides emergency food assistance to over 183000 East Texans every year — through our network of food pantries and soup kitchens — but the need is so much greater! Feeding America, the nation’s food bank network of more than 200 food banks, will be working in their communities as well to raise awareness. Nationwide, 50 million Americans suffer from food insecurity. But hunger’s impact is felt by many more than the millions living with food insecurity. Throughout September, there will be opportunities to get involved. We hope you will join us in raising awareness of hunger in America.

Northern Vermont Ballet performance of “Jamie Art” an original contemporary ballet piece choreographed by Director and certified ABT Instructor, Maryellen Vickery at Dibden Center for the Arts June 11, 2011. Choreography for “Jamie Art” is inspired by the strength and resilience of Maryellen’s fellow artist, Jamie, of Jeffersonville, Vermont. Jamie was severely injured in 2001 at the age of 19 in a terrible head on car crash from a reckless driver which left her paralyzed from her neck down. With physical therapy, pool therapy, and through her determination, Jamie has gained enough movement in her now dominant left arm to enable her to paint. Painting helps Jamie deal with the emotional trauma of the crash and the numerous life changes she has had to endure. Jamie says her parents and sister have helped her stay strong and positive. The Ballet School of Vermont was established in 2001 in St. Albans, Vermont. BSVT is proud to include the American Ballet Theatre National Training Curriculum, a breakthrough 8 level program that combines high quality artistic training with the basics of dancer health and child development. The ABT National Training Curriculum consists of age appropriate, outcome based guidelines to provide the highest quality ballet training to dance students of all ages and skill levels. The Ballet School of Vermont is home to Northern Vermont Ballet. NVB is a student company dedicated to classical dance training with the belief that classical training …

Dr. Philippe Rochat Professor of Psychology Emory University The origins of morality are deeply rooted in evolution and human development. The question is how does morality come about, and when does it become conscious? I propose that the pressure and necessity of cooperation leads children toward moral agency. Lack of cooperation entails social exclusion, which undermines the need to affiliate and amplifies the deep-seated and universal fear of rejection. I suggest that cooperation, the foundation of human sociality, depends on three innate capacities: a sense of self as agent, a sense of self as others, and a sense of mutuality with others. Such development leads children from approximately five years of age onward to take an ethical stance as a moral agent situated in a world made of shared norms and values. Philippe Rochat received his doctorate from the University of Geneva, in 1984, where he was trained by Jean Piaget and his close collaborators. Rochat then completed post-doctoral work at Brown University, the University of Pennsylvania, and Johns Hopkins University. He held a faculty position at the University of Massachusetts and joined the faculty at Emory University in the 1990s. A 2006–07 Guggenheim fellow, Rochat has published and edited six books as well as more than 100 scholarly articles on infant and child development. The main focus of his research is the early sense of self, emerging self-concept, the development of social cognition and relatedness …
